When the rotor is not replaced, the vehicle may misfire, experience high fuel consumption, Check Engine Light (CEL) illumination or no start - be sure to check the distributor cap when replacing the rotor.

Distributor Cap and Rotor
What It Does: The Distributor Cap is the portion of the ignition system which distributes the ignition spark from the ignition coil to each individual cylinder. The ignition rotor distributes the coils voltage from the center distributor cap tower to the individual spark plug leads found on the distributor cap. Ignition wires are connected to the distributor cap, the ignition wires lead from the distributor cap to the spark plugs.
Location: The Ignition Control Module may be located within the distributor, on the firewall, fender well, or within the Powertrain Control Module.
Failure Symptoms: Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) illumination, failed emission test, misfire condition, hard starting, no start, engine hesitation.
